I think it's interesting that, after the fall of the old Soviet Union, they started to look at Islamic terrorists as a possible new interpretation of the King of the North. They will exploit whatever the fear du jour is for as long as they can get away with it. Once one situation is resolved, they will look to what ever comes next and ride it for all it's worth.

Congratulations on your new life.
You are living proof that WT claims about those who leave are nothing but lies!! -

2008 is over and still no Armagedon I feel like I made an ass of myself!
by Witness 007 inlike rutherford said "i made an ass of myself" regarding 1925...it's 2008-2009 and still no "end.
" i remember sitting in pizza hut with pioneers argueing {1991} that the end must come by 2000 at the latest...now it's nearly 2010!.
a book i read afew years ago regarding secret hebrew "codes" in the bible claimed the code identified 2007-08 as the end of the world...well unless it happens in the next week that was a load of crap as well....i wonder when many of my witness friends will "awake" to this joke..

I think Jaguarbass is right. Armageddon did come in 1975. It came invisibly.

Vancouver is one of my favorite cities. I just love it. At one point I heard it was voted the second best city in the world. Don't know by who though, but it was announced on Canadian TV. I highly recommend a visit.
It's very beautiful and there are a lot of fun things to do there. Stanley Park and Granville Island are two highlights. I also recommend taking a ferry to visit the surrounding area, including the Gulf Islands and Vancouver Island. -

An interesting email I got from a DA'd friend I was catching up with
by JimmyPage inrecently i got back in touch with a da'd friend that i grew up with.
i'm going to focus on one part of her email because i think it's relevant to this board.
when i mentioned that i had been on an ex-jw website, she writes:.

I wonder if she is afraid of what she will find if she looks here. It isn't easy facing the truth about "the truth."
I know people who left the JWs years ago but still don't fully understand its damaging effects, or that it is a cult. It is obvious to me, however, that they are still suffering from it.
Everyone is different. And maybe she really doesn't need something like this. But the cult experience is very damaging to most people. She may suffer in ways that she doesn't understand. If she feels she apprehensive about boards like this, I hope she at least reads books about mind control and how it works. -

I can't believe what I did.
by reneeisorym inso yesterday i was watching the news and i saw something about secret santa.
there is this movement of people who hand random strangers $100 bills at places like laundry mats and thrift stores.
so i was "moved" and decided to give it a shot.

I think this was a lovely gesture of kindness on your part. And what a wonderful time to do it, too. Not only is this Christmas, but we're in the middle of a severe economic downturn. Now is the time to share what we have with others who have less. You have inspired me! I will give $100 to my local food bank in your honor!

Former WT attorney Olin Moyle's papers at Princeton University
by Olin Moyles Ghost inolin r. moyle was an attorney for the watchtower society from 1935 to 1939. he left bethel in 1939 due to becoming disillusioned with "judge" rutherford's conduct.
a copy of moyle's resignation letter can be found here: http://www.watchtowerdocuments.com/downloads/1939%20olin%20moyles%20letter%20to%20rutherford.pdf.
the letter enraged rutherford, and he immediately dismissed moyle and his wife from bethel.

This could be a treasure trove. I wonder if Barbara Anderson knows anything about this?

Here's an experience I had.......
by WingCommander in.....around the mid 1990's.
there was a sister in our congregation that was very poor.
she was kind, dressed very modestly (not in shreds, even though poor) and was missing some teeth, probably because her non-jw husband used to get drunk and beat her.

Cults value followers who have something to offer them. If a follower has little to offer, he/she is of little value to the cult.

An elder's wife added me to Facebook and msn.
by merfi ini da'd in feb 06. hadn't heard a word from any jw since then.. about a month or 3 weeks ago, i emailed an elder to ask if my 15yo was still on whatever publisher list it is now.
when i left, she had just been announced (i think) an unbaptized pub.
so i was curious about her 'status'.

I guess even a cult can't destroy some friendships. Congratulations. She must be a real friend.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!! Add your greeting!
by LovesDubs inour little party here is coming to a close and i am very sad about that.
i remember on my high school graduation day in june of 1972, we were all standing in the cafeteria getting our caps and gowns on and i looked around the room at all these people i had literally grown up with for 18 years and thought "this is the last time we are all going to be all together" and it made me cry.
i have come to depend on and love you guys so much.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all who celebrate them. Happy Holidays to all who celebrate anything else too.
This is the time of year to celebrate, at least in the northern hemisphere, with its short, dark days and cold weather. And this is the place to celebrate the freedom to follow your own conscience!
